The “Era of Good Feelings” was an expansion of the economy, creation of new states, the growth of white settlement and trade in the west and more importantly the rise of nationalism in the united states following the war of 1812. James Monroe was sixty-one when he became president during is his career he served in the Revolution as a diplomat, he also served as a cabinet officer. when he entered office he was rewarded with favorable circumstances. During his presidency, the Federalist were declining. When the war concluded in 1812 there were no international threats, this is significant because American politicians have dreamed of this since the first days of the republic of a time in which fractional disputes and partisan division might come to an end(Brinkley,221). Although, the republicans hoped for a simple agrarian society growth continued throughout the nineteenth century. A common issue created by The War of 1812 was chaos in shipping and banking (Brinkley ,215). By cutting off imports growth of manufacturing was stimulated. New factories were able to start operation that assured quick profits. For instance, the American textile industry which had a dramatic growth from 1807-1815 (Brinkley, 216). More importantly, the war exposed the inadequacy of the existing transportation and financial systems. The federal government agreed to use government funds to finance roads from the Potomac river to the Ohio river. Lastly, the war underlined the need for another national bank. After the first bank of the united states in 188, state bank began issuing an extensive amount of bank notes but they did not retain enough gold or silver to collect the notes on
