With development we have theorist Erikson with the psychosocial theory. The theory emphasizes lifelong developments, resolved positivity or negativity. In the current stage of Erikson’s perspective I am in stage five the adolescence stage which consist of the ages twelve through eight-teen, the conflict being identity vs. confusion. I am trying to find myself and see where I am going in life. A resolution to this conflict fidelity which is defined as “faithfulness to a person, cause or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support. In this stage I am working on making friends that have the same goals and dreams as me so that we can all focus on making our goals come true. Also loyalty from those who do claim they care for me or that…
The Erikson’s Psychosocial theory was very interesting to me, I was always wanted to know more about Erikson’s and his theories, I learned a lot about him in the sociology class and I found his theories more close to my own way of thinking that is the way I chose him and chose his theory. And also his idea of having eight stages was the most realistic and close to me. In this research paper, I will cover the following: general information about Erikson and his theory Stages.…
In early adolescence Rekha try to figure out where she fit in into the world. She started struggling with her self- esteem, coping mechanisms and temper. When puberty hit Rekha was consider an early bloomer. Early maturing was common in the Desai family, so it was no surprise for Rekha to experience puberty before most of her classmates. These foreign changes brought on unwanted attention from classmates and family friends who wanted to offer a dowry for Rekha to have an arranged marriage with their son. The thought of arrange marriage stressed Rekha out. For girls, early maturation is generally associated with greater storm and stress (Blewitt and Broderick, 2015).…
Erik Erikson developed eight stages in personality development spanning birth to later years. Erikson believed that an individual's inner instincts interact with outside influences which then have a bearing on the way an individual's personality develops. (SOURCE) According to Erikson’s stages, Shazad is currently in the “generativity versus stagnation” phase. The characteristics of this stage include looking beyond one’s self and embracing society and future generations. (TEXTBOOK, PG. 36) Developing concern for those outside the family is the favored outcome. Shazad fits well into this stage. He has noticed that his personal attractiveness no longer matters to him as it did when he was younger. He pays more attention to politics and…
This assignment has been very difficult for me to do. The first task in this assignment is to explain in which of Erikson’s eight stages of life I believe I am currently in.…
The seventh stage of Erikson’s eight stage model of psychosocial development, generativity versus stagnation, is where I believe where I am located in the model (McAdams, 2006). The central question that is posed during this stage is: “How can I fashion a “gift” (McAdams, 2006)?…
I look forward to that point in life where I can reflect on my life and be proud of my accomplishments. For years, not having a college degree was the biggest regret I ever had, and now that I will no longer have that, I look forward to what I will do with that. Like with Erikson’s Ego vs Despair, like Kelly, I want to be at that point in my life where I am satisfied with my life. I never felt bad, but there were moments in my work career where I would not be able to advance because I did not have a college degree. Joan Erikson and Gerotransendence, Kelly have hit that point where he is content with where his life is at and the close circle of friends that he has is what helps keep him grounded.…
When Erikson developed his psychosocial theory, he used Sigmund Freud as a basis for his theory (Capps, 2011, p. 881-882). Erikson expanded on Freud's stages because he wanted to include old age, since Freud did not explain his psychosexual theory passed adolescence (Fleming, 2004, p. 9-3). It is significant that Erikson continued his stages of human development through old age; it shows us that development continues past adolescence. In Erikson's theory he creates eight stages of development in an individuals "lifespan," each stage has a crisis that must be addressed before the start of the next stage, (Sneed, Whitbourne, & Culang, 2006, p. 149). Although each stage is critical for the next stage to be successful, each stage can be "revisited" because each stage effects the next stage (Sneed Whitbourne, & Culang, 2006, p. 149).…
1. Trust vs. Mistrust- This mother displays affection, and adequate care giving to her child. By providing a child with this throughout their first year of life, you show that they can depend on you. This forms a bond of trust between mother and infant, rather than mistrust.…
Per Erikson, the first thing a child must learn in infancy is to trust himself and those around him in his environment (Berns, 2013). This is the basis of his personality growth; from here he will conquer many different stages as he grows and develops.…
Each step of the life course perspective can be correlated to similar stages theorized by Erik Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development. Throughout an individual’s life from infancy through late adulthood Erikson identified eight stages of development according to their natural schema and social environment. With each stage different psychosocial tasks are encountered and if they are mastered a certain virtue is acquired. Each stage builds upon the one that came before it, although mastery is not required to begin the next stage. Some individuals may not complete all challenges and may have to face them again when they reappear later in life which may possibly create…
Erik Erikson’s and Lawrence Kohlberg developed several different theories that demonstrated each phase of our lives. Their theories demonstrated how each stage developed and how the stages help to make us who we are today. We develop, learn, and revolutionize through developmental and moral developments. This paper will illustrate how each developmental and moral development represents each stage of life.…

Renowned psychologist Erik Erikson is best known for his theory of psychosocial stages of personality development. Unlike Freud, Erikson’s theory spans a person’s entire lifespan, from childhood to old age. One of the main elements of Erikson’s psychosocial stage theory is the development of ego identity (Cherry, 2013). Ego Identity is the conscious sense of self that we develop through social interaction (Cherry, 2013). Erikson believed that our ego identity is constantly changing due to new experiences and information we acquire in our daily interactions with others (Cherry, 2013). The stages of Erikson’s theory are concerned with becoming competent in an area of life (Cherry, 2013). Erikson believed that if a stage is handled well the person will feel a sense of mastery or is often referred to as ego strength or ego quality (Cherry, 2013). He also believed that if a stage is handled poorly the person will emerge with a sense of inadequacy (Cherry, 2013). The eight stages as taken from my module 3 discussion board post where I put forth that I believed personality is developed in stages and used Erikson’s stages for my example are:…
Erikson's stage of Identity and Role Confusion is a phase that occurs between ages 12 to 18. This stage is critical to transition into what type of person you want to be. Adolescents leave this stage with a sense of who they are and what they want to become, professionally and emotionally. Factors that impact adolescent development of identity include: family, society, and self reflections.…
