Alcatraz was a prison built for the worst prisoners of them all. The Jailhouse was constructed in 1934, when a big crime wave hit the US, robberies, murders, and many more crimes. Alcatraz was often referred to as “the rock”, and many people died of the consequences such as the cold dark empty cells, called the strip cells, and the overall boredom and loneliness.(No Way Out). Many people attempted to escape such as Frank Morris, Clarence Anglin, and John Anglin.A lot of individuals think Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers died during their break out, but there is a lot of evidence that they survived, including the fact that John and Clarence’s family have received messages from unknown people over the years, the escapees had a raft and the other prisoners who had tried to escape never did. Their raft was found on Angel island.(Prison Escape from Alcatraz). Many believe it is a sign they are still alive today. At 9:30 on June 11,1962 just after lights out Frank, Clarence, and John climbed through the vents of Alcatraz. They had been working at their walls with spoons, saws, and other tools for years. Frank, John, and Clarence had a raft and preservers to keep them afloat. A lot of people say that they died of hypothermia, but one of the Anglin brothers’ family members said that they were used to the cold water so that wouldn't be a problem for them.(Prison Escape from Alcatraz) Also if the jailbreakers would have for some reason fallen out of the raft and drowned their bodies would have floated to the top of the bay. They couldn't have died in the waters because the searchers said their were no bodies found, and if they had drowned the bodies would have floated to the top of the bay. Therefore the inmates did survive their
