Essay III
Physical Education and Sports
Physical Education is very important in school these days. It is a required class in most high schools rather than an elective. The problem with some physical education classes is the teachers have favorites. Most of the time there is already an athlete of some type in the gym class so the instructor might favor them because they actually like the class and are competitive. Favoring athletes is not fair to the students who have never had experience with some type of sport because those students need to be pushed and motivated instead of ignored. Sports bring out the competitive side of people which is good in some ways but in other ways it is dangerous. If you are too competitive then you may do anything in your power to get what you want. For instance, in soccer if you are trying to keep the ball away from the opposite team and they get too aggressive and push you down you could get very hurt or even fight back because you want to win. In some cases of activities in school, girls and guys may be on the same team but the guys think a girl can’t do it right so they knock the girl out of the way to get the ball. This can cause many issues between the students and even the physical education teacher. The underdog may feel like the teacher doesn’t care about them, they only care how the athlete is doing in the class.
Boys are always competitive whether it’s to show off for a girl or to obtain dominance over the other athletes. They feel like they have to win because if they don’t people may think that person is too slow or weak. No-one wants to feel threatened by a competitor so they do anything they can to win and show how great they really are. In one case there was a girl who people thought was very girly but really she was a great athlete, so great that she pushed herself a little too hard to make sure she got the position she wanted so none of the other players could
