There are three main types of consciousness. Consciousness as sensory awareness involves 5 senses. Your five senses allow you to know what is going on in the environment around you. Sometimes you have to select one so you can focus on what needs to be done. Consciousness as direct inner awareness is something that doesn't actually happen but you can imagine what it is like.
