Before I started taking Black Experience I, I could tell you very little about the history of Africa. I could give small facts about Egypt and how scientist believe that Africa is were human life actually started before they moved north and across the Ice Bridge. I knew that their lives and culture were mostly inspired by the spirits that they believed watched over them and gave them life and life to all around them. The use for slavery held some similarities with their European neighbors. Even though both used slavery they also had different uses for it as well. Taking this course I learned that being enslaved was not always a permanent thing but some were taken as slaves to to Islamic religion, and war. One big difference between African Slavery and Transatlantic Slavery were that The royals, overseers and high class owners actually protected and provided for their slaves. They in a way gave the slaves freedom. They would allow these slaves to see over their lands and jobs to ensure that work was getting down. They also were given well accommodated living quarters for them and their family and also allowed their children employment for the future. Over time though they started seeing it based on race within their own people. Those that were darker or from poorer regions where put into slavery and sold as objects to travelers and other High class
