Essay On Buster Keaton
The general is a silent movie that is in black and white. It is directed by the main character Buster Keaton. This movie was spent high cost to produce. In the film, the entire scene is real situation (playing in real rail track) and there isn’t any manipulation as it is in an early age of film industry. For example, there was a scene that the bridge is broken. This scene was taken in a real place and the real bridge was broken and this showed the bravery of Keaton is really big as this film spent much on the production than others in the same period of time. And this showed the style of the director is really brave and willing to make something that is unprecedented.
In the movie, there are a lot of jokes; the jokes appeared from situation.

Like attacking by an enemy, or disqualified by the head of the solders. This can show the disconnection of the film character as no relation between the facial expression and circumstances can be seen. This comedy can fully display Keaton’s personality.
I think the intention of the director to produce this film is to relax Americans. As at the time of his production, America is facing some problems. Comedy is the only way that people can relax themselves. And this film is not just providing unrealistic jokes but giving factual jokes which is so admiring. Apart from this, this showed the reality of the world of that time, and which is a reflecting the daily life and the audience can easily be inside the movie.
The style of this movie is relaxing as people can have fun when watching this movie. It can be defined as a comedy. About its acting mood, it seems to be very special comparing to other films. As Keaton did not use fantastic and impossible jokes to make people laugh at him like other same period’s comedy, instead, he used realistic gags to make people feel funny. The whole movie is focusing on the reality to produce and not an imaginative world. This is really a big characteristic of this

Buster Keaton’s role in The General perfectly epitomizes the utilization of comedy during the Silent Film Era as the medium through which a deeper story is conveyed. The Silent Era was generally characterized by two things: the extreme dedication of its actors and a tendency towards slapstick comedy. While the first can be attributed to the passion of these early filmmakers, the latter is perhaps more of a function of necessity. With limited use of title slides and no use of sound, actors like Buster Keaton had to find a way to tell stories without words. And so they turned to a language that can be spoken by any person, understood in any country, and appreciated across the world: humor.…

After spending time listening and participating in my class’s interactive oral for Cyrano de Bergerac, my mind and thought process towards this play were expanded. I never realized how pyrotechnic Rostand’s writing truly is. This play contains so many symbols that allows the reader to connect with the story on a deeper level. The interactive oral gave me a chance to notice the little symbolisms that most people overlook, such as, a barrier that prevents Cyrano from professing his love to his cousin Roxane, meant to be shown through Cyrano’s rather large nose. There was also a realization about the differences and similarities of the culture depicted then and the culture now. The stereotypical gender roles seemed to be switched in the play then what…

All of the qoutations pretty much tells the same message. But for me Rabbi Barry H Block's qoutation most strongly captures the essense of the film. As i read the qoutation ''hope and laughter can bring light into even the darkest corner'' affect me,it is because our country is in the list of poorest countries in the world. We need to work everyday under the sun just to buy food for our families. One thing that i am proud of being filipino is you can't really tell if we have a problem because we are always smiling. One thing that makes every filipino happy is a karaoke machine, there is no family who doesn't have one. I remember when I was still in the Philippines we sing for forever until we get the 100% score and we even sing until dawn. Thats why were proud of Jessica Sanchez 2nd runner up of American Idol because she get to show other people what filipinos got.Even if people don't have any food or money in there we have our neighbours who shares what they have, that is love and were still smile and laugh even though deep inside were not. I focused more on the word ''laughter'' because it is really the best medicine. This response is more on emotional that intelectual because i experienced it before.…

Going back to the 1700's when America was in the process of becoming America, smoking has always been present. Now in present day America, walking down the streets of any town, or road, you see and smell the awful and thick smell of tobacco smoke. 9 out of 10 times you are guaranteed to find an old cigarette on the ground. Attempts to better this issue have been made of course. Gruesome commercials tell the terrible consequences of smoking on the body, taxes have been raised on them, but people continue to smoke. But there still are the good citizens of this country who do not have this awful habit and are free from those horrific consequences of smoking right? Although considering the problem of second-hand smoking many of those "non-smokers" are still affected. I think it is agreed by society as a whole that this problem must be fixed at once. Here I will provide two intelligent solutions to this problem that I have come up with being only a innocent bystander.…

There was not one dull moment in the movie and a lot of the credit goes to Kevin Hart, a comedian, which was the narrator throughout the whole movie. He was the one who introduced all the characters and himself at the beginning of the movie and basically told jokes throughout the movie because that’s what everyone knows him as; a funny man. That was clever of Steve Harvey to have him as narrator because just having a movie that gives advice the whole time can get boring for 2 hours.…

The film’s cinematography is simple and elegant. All the figures have been designed with perfection. The characters’ expressions for each and every emotion are discrete and explanatory. The characters faces can be seen to change correspondingly with a change in the scenario i.e. they present appropriate gestures for example Sally’s facial expression is seen to change when she sees Jack Skellington; clearly indicating desire and love that she later…
