What caused her heart attack was a blocked artery. When the doctors went to unblock the heart they ruptured an artery wall, which caused her to go into biventricular heart failure. Due to this she had to have two pumps inner heart and carry a noisy device about the size of a suitcase everywhere she went. They had to lower how much work the pumps were doing so that there would be less blood transfusions, because all of the blood transfusion make it harder to get a donor heart. They ran tests on her to see if her heart had healed enough to live without the pumps, and when that came back negative they decided to put her on an experimental pump.
