Cardiac Surgeons Essay

Cardiac surgeons are people who do treatments and surgeries to treat people with heart and lung disease. They also deal with vessels and organs. There are a lot of different types of operations. There is heart valve repair and replacements, heart defect repair, coronary artery bypass, aneurysm repair, heart transplant, lungs (lung disease). They complete the most surgeries in their field. Grey’s Anatomy influenced me because in that show it’s a bunch of different types of surgeons and I liked cardio the best. These surgeons usually work in the hospital, some work in teaching hospitals so they can train them to be cardiac surgeons. Operating rooms are bright and clean. They always have a working team in there, they do not work alone. There schedule for this occupation is very hard. They work long and odd hours doing their job. On-call surgeons can be called in at anytime for emergencies of patients. I do not think I’d like this schedule time, but I would like doing this job and the money that comes along with it. They are in a high demand due to the baby boom generation aging. Their ages are having more and more heart conditions, coronary artery disease, and cardiovascular disease. By 2025 the demand for cardiothoracic surgeons will go up by 46% because of the current health care and aging problems. In 2012-2022 there will be a 18% growth in surgeons. I chose to research a cardiothoracic surgeon because of the show Grey’s Anatomy. Cardio Surgeons manages other diseases like hypertension, diabetes, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), asthma, and hypothyroid. They perform histories and physical exams and they handle daily patient rounds. I would like this job because it is an intense high paying and high demand job.
