Cardiology is a sub-specialty of internal medicine that deals with heart disorders. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology.
2) Cardiologists
A cardiologist is a specialist of internal medicine who has received special training and experience in the field of treating problems of the heart and associated blood vessels. They can be experienced in different fields, using a variety of diagnostic techniques that are categorized as non-invasive, such as the use of ultrasound, or invasive, which includes heart catheterizations and angioplasty. Cardiologists can also sub specialize in many fields. Non-invasive cardiologists do not do procedures but mainly perform diagnostic tests to identify heart problems. They perform tests such as ECHO’s, stress tests, and EKG’s. They primarily run an office-based practice .and see 25 to 30 patients a day. According to MGMA, they make approximately 400,000 $ per year. Invasive cardiologists do all the things non-invasive cardiologists can do, plus a bit more. They are trained in a diagnostic procedure called cardiac catheterization, which is used to find blockages of the arteries function, and performance of the electrical activities of the heart. Costs for medical school only can go up to 150000 dollars or plus. And adding the expenses for college, residency, books etc., and a doctor’s education can be worth more than 500,000 dollars.
