Why I Want To Be An Occupational Therapist

Ever since I was a little girl, I have had the dream of working in the medical field. I have always fanaticized the idea of helping others get better from their injuries or sicknesses, and through my education I have realized that I would do better as a therapist of some sort rather than a medical doctor. As a therapist, they tend to help patients get better after their injury, so they hopefully see them progressively get healthier. As a doctor, it can be the other way around. I quickly realized that I needed to be on the somewhat happier side of healthcare, because I do not think I would be able to handle the emotional stress of helping people when they are at their absolute worst. Occupational Therapists have specific patients they see on a regular basis, while most Public Health officials will never have a specific patient they treat. Public Health, like it states in the name, is focused more on the health of the public than one specific individual. While the framework of all professional code of ethics are somewhat similar, I believe that flexibility is essential for different professions to get their work done in the greatest, most caring extent possible. I also believe that by giving each profession their own code of ethics, it holds them more accountable for their actions. That way, the rules are more strictly followed, and a stigma will not be placed on one profession by other professions actions while not following their code of ethics
