Essay On Cesar Chavez

Cesar Chavez was a civil activist who made it his mission to provide better pay and treatment for field workers. Malcolm Gladwell, author of Outliers, believes in six key components that make an outlier successful: abilities, opportunities, passion, ten-thousand hours, cultural advantage, and community. Cesar Chavez maintained all of these elements of abilities and opportunities, passion and ten-thousand hours, as well as cultural advantage and community to complete his goal for field workers, which made him a successful outlier. Cesar’s had many abilities and opportunities to guide him to strive for a change. Cesar always had talent to help others. As a child Cesar and his family would provide food and errands for the poor. He never accepted money from them because he was taught that if he gave to others, God will lead a way for him. Well, God did deliver an opportunity for him when he met Fred Ross, who founded the Community Service
When Cesar departed from the Community Service Organization, he started his own organization called National Farm Workers Association. In this union, Cesar used non-violent tactics like fasting and marches to voice his protest. The quote, “Cesar was willing to sacrifice his own life so that the union would continue and that violence was not used.”(2014 United Farm Workers), displays Cesar was so determined to his cause that he put his life before others. Cesar had completed above ten-thousand hours for his cause. He worked in the fields as a teenager and as an adult he even worked on weekends to help support the family. When he tried to recruit people for the National Farmers Workers Association he would travel far, hoping to gain a lot of supporters, instead he had a ratio of two to one-hundred who would join him. Although he felt discouraged, he never gave up on his
