Many people believe that concussions and head injuries are just a part of sports, but research shows other wise. A lot of doctors and neuropsychologists (doctors who specialize in understanding a relationship between the physical brain and behavior) believe that this is false, and these problems can be prevented. The prevention of traumatic head injuries is very possible by learning the correct way to wear equipment, knowing what equipment is required, and lastly knowing the signs of a head injury.
One of the first ways that you can help the prevention of concussions is by knowing and understanding the signs of a concussion or an injury. This quote by Joel Parkinson really shows that you actually can …show more content…
As said by Junior Seau, a former linebacker from the NFL, “I believe that he had hinted that the equipment managers did not really care about the safety of the players”. This is a scary statement, if the equipment managers really do not care about the safety of the players then they should not be hired for that position. The players safety should always come first.He also said “Being a part of the National Football League for so long, I've come across so many trainers and equipment managers who've allowed me to be who I am today.”(Seau) This shows us that the equipment managers may not truly care about the players health and safety. They might just be there for the money. So to be as safe as possible the helmet/ equipment should fit good. Fitting a football helmet can be a tedious process but it is worth the extra time spent. The front of the helmet should sit an inch above the eyebrows, therefore the helmet encompasses the largest part of the head. The chin strap should be centered on the chin with no slack on either side. This should keep the helmet in place. To make sure all of this is safe, the helmet must maintain the current position during play(Kurash).
