Essay On Followership
Leadership have been the focus for researcher for many decades, now, however, the study of followership has had an increase in researchers studies. More and more professionals are wanting to know, "Why followers follow". Not too long ago being a follower had a bad connotation to it. Now with the help of recent research it is better understood what being a follower is all about. Dr. Kellerman makes many good point in her book "Followership". For example why do we follow leaders even though sometimes we do not agree with the leaders loans. To begin, leadership and followership has been the way humanity gets throughout life since the as far as records go back. In fact, according to Dr. Kellmans, humans are not the only ones who organize life …show more content…
There are many different types of follows Dr. Kellerman point out the five main types of followers which are: "Isolate, bystander, participant, activist and diehard" followers. Although these are the five main types of followers, many more followers may be in society. One thing is for certain, rather following with an group or as an individual, it is recognized that people follow for their own individual reasons. Being a follower usually give people a since of protection. Rather from fear of what may happen in their afterlife or what may happen in their present life if they do not follow their leader. Another reason followers follow maybe because it provides the follower with comfort and a feel of community. Everyone is not a leader. It is impossible. People need to feel as if their lives have value, and being in a group with shared values and goals makes followers feel as if they are not alone. In the book "Moses and Monotheism" Freud made a four great points: "First, Freud claims that a strong need for authority is part of the human condition. Second, he asserts that this need is the consequence of our earliest relationship with a dominant male, usually our father. Third, Freud made an explicit connection between our need for authority and our need for religion, for God.
