To begin with, why would I not want to be a part of the Hip Hop and Civil Engagement seminar? There are many reasons, so please accept my apology if the first sounds shallow. I do not like Hip, Hop music. It is my least favorite genres of music with its tendencies of using profanity and its harsh, vibrating beats. Especially on the manner of profanity I am avidly against. Hip hop is a genera developed by people in the Bronx of New York and many consider the music a response conditions of those of a lower socioeconomic status or part of a racial minority. Why there is no doubt that such messages should be heard; it must also be consider that this music style is very aggressive in nature and many of the most famous rappers have had one or more convictions against them. Noteworthy examples include B.G. for witness tampering and possession of a gun, Big Lurch for the murder of a 21 year old women and the desecration of body by eating parts of it, and John Forte, charge with possession of cocaine and intent to distribute. It is disgusting that these people would portray themselves as role models and at the same time be found in the possession of illegal drugs. Now that you have a clearer picture of my reasoning on why I am not inclined to be of high opinion the genre of hip hop, let us delve into the other aspect of your seminar, civil
