Intolerance has been a key issue over the history of our existence in this world. Many things classify as an act of intolerance toward a specific issue. Two things help predict mainstream intolerance in a culture. One arises from religious beliefs and spiritual practices. The other arises from the value of their relative position in society. Intolerance also has the counter argument for what it is. Research has been done to figure the reasons why people do not accept different things. There are many reasons seem to be for intolerance. It can be due to personality, environment, and psychological problems. The terms of difference have been associated with anxiety, stress, and coping (Rosen). It comes from what people believed and the protection for that belief (Rosen). The negative belief and how it serves as consequence put people in simple minded mental state (Rosen). It does not allow them to fully think it through because of the state of uncertainty they do not think exists (Rosen). It all plays into the psychological thinking of a person and what they think the consequences are to their action (Rosen). Research has proven this reason for intolerance and how they feel threat by this person (Budner). Another reason people believe in intolerance is the personality a person has. A study has proven the place personality has in intolerance (Crandall). The different types of behavior and how consistent those are influence a person attitude toward intolerance (Martin, Barclay).
