Explain Why Some Beliefs Are Better Than Other Beliefs

The phrase "some beliefs are better than other beliefs" is not correct. However, it is easier to say that than actually to believe that if we, in fact, hold our personal beliefs to a high standard in our lives. Take for example Christianity, those of us that believe that Jesus Christ is our savior wholeheartedly believe that our beliefs are the correct and better beliefs. In fact, we believe that this is the only true religion and many Christians can become furious if someone challenges them. Many times ( especially in the South) other faiths or beliefs are not tolerated, and many times different cultures are still persecuted. Although I am a Christian, I do not think my beliefs are better than others. I realize that just like I was taught as a child to believe in Christ, others were also taught just as I was about their religion and their views are as important to them as mine is to me. It is at that point, necessary to respect those differences, even if our faiths are different. I believe I was able to grasp this concept early in life because I moved to different areas in the country and had met many people that thought differently. I have learned to appreciate other cultures, and at times it has been fun to experience.
For many people, the word prejudice brings the image of hate of different races and skin color, but we can be prejudice against many different things and ideas and not realize it. When we prejudge other people's habits, customs, clothes, ways of speaking and their beliefs with no foundation for the judgment, we are showing prejudice when we automatically judge these things just because they are different (Mendoza-Denton, 2011). I feel that when a person says, "Some beliefs are better than others," he or she is making a prejudice
