For previously upper class women in Asia during Genghis Khan’s rule, that proved to be challenging since they could not work jobs requiring them to be on their feet often due to their feet having been ruined by the practice of binding they underwent as children. Attention was quickly directed toward the issue and most of the women were given desk jobs or stayed at home. The continuation of this practice among the women to be loyal towards their previous emperors worried Stalin. Beginning in 1915, government inspectors could levy fines on those who continued to bind their feet.
