Essay On Nutcracker Dance

In order to embrace a classic holiday tradition, dancers from Denise Gucwa’s School of Dance performed “The Nutcracker” on Sunday December 6. Dancers have been preparing for the show since August. Dance teacher Nora Flemington found comfort in getting an early start on choreography. “We want to make sure our dancers are as prepared as they can be,” said Flemington. “I prefer to get rehearsals started before the studio opens in mid-September.” The dancers were eager to get to work on one of their favorite traditions. Dancer Isabella Joyce has been performing in The Nutcracker for the past five years. “I always love to start rehearsing, because it gets me in the Christmas spirit so early in the year,” said Joyce. According to Flemington, her goal was to add “more scenery and props” to the show. This also included a growing Christmas tree and a cheese cannon. “I have been wanting to do this in past productions, but I found that the locations we were at didn’t suit the idea,” said Flemington. This was the first year that the production used the Souderton High School stage. Studio owner Denise Gucwa enjoyed the transfer. “The stage at Souderton was a huge step up from what we had been performing on in the past,” said Gucwa. “It was much more sophisticated than what we were used to which was a good thing.” The studio also had the opportunity of producing two shows instead of only one. Dancers in the production felt more at ease knowing they had a bigger stage. “We are tall girls with long legs and we always end being way to close to each other when we rehearse in the studio,” said Joyce. “Being able to have so much room on stage is truly a blessing.” Dancer Jessica Mavrick had similar, but slightly different views. “It can be a blessing and a curse,” said Mavrick. “Yes we had more room, but it also meant doing twice the amount of work such as six leaps instead of
