What is an Oktoberfest?
The Oktoberfest is a beer festival celebrated each year in Munich, Bavaria Germany during late September and October. This celebration is the most famed events in the city and the world’s biggest fair, with a lot of people visiting every year. This event invites images of beer loving and meat loving Germans dressed in dirndls and lederhosen, and people that visit come from all over the world. This festival is one of the massive and most wealthy visitor attractions (Vista wide, 2004).
History of the Oktoberfest
The Oktoberfest custom started in 1810. The people of Munich were requested to join festivals which were held in the fields in front of the city gates. There were many anniversary parties including races, climbing competitions, eating contests. In 2006, the Oktoberfest extended two extra days because it was a national holiday. (Vista wide, 2004).
Oktoberfest Events
The beginning of the Oktoberfest has changed all the time. Horse races were very popular in the 1960’s and the farm shows are still put on frequently. Horse races gave rise to the celebration of the Oktoberfest. The first Sunday in October the fairgrounds are planned into a city of beer tents and booths of vendors with different activities to participate in. (Vista wide, 2004).

Around the world Germany is famous for desired folk music, marches and bands. As the evening continues, the music becomes louder and people begin to sing, linking arms and swinging beer mugs from side to side. Also some people stand and start dancing on benches and tables. After each dance, the band will offer a toast to relaxation. “YMCA, “New York, New York” and even disco will be heard at the festival.
