James Madison originally first proposed the Second Amendment on June 8, 1789 saying “The right of the people to keep and bear...arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country...." (James Madison, I Annals of Congress).Then later on December 15, 1791 it would be adopted into the U.S. Constitution. There are actually two different version of the amendment, the only difference are the punctuation and capitalization. And, till this day the amendment has stuck by our constitution, and has become a very controversial topic lately. As many can see even today we still talk about the Second Amendment and what it really means or what is intended to mean. But, people don’t fully know each key phrase to the amendment itself, which actually are very in depth and have a lot of explanation behind the few words.

Not many people know what this really means. Well in reality the Second Amendment does not grant any right to bear arms, that is the misconception many people have about the amendment. They believe that it is basically saying you could easily get their hands on a weapon, which isn’t really the case. As well, the rest of the Bill of Rights does not describe any right to do so. These are just thought of as natural rights or as God given rights.
