Self-fulfilling prophecies. What does that mean? Where could you find it? More often then not, one's life can be largely based on self-fuflilling prophecies. "A self-fulfilling prophecy occurs when a person's expectations of an event, and her or his subsequent behavior based on those expectations, make the outcome more likely to occur than would otherwise have been true." In other words, it means that if you believe that you are able to do something, then you are likely to succeed, whereas if you believe that you cannot do something, then you are more likely to fail. My friend was playing a championship game, it was very difficult as there were other players that seemed to be better at the game than him. I encouraged him, believing that he would be able to win. He started to become more confident in himself with my encouragement, believing that he did have the ability to win, causing him to play harder than he normally would. Eventually after an hour an a half, he had won the game. He was full of confidence that when he played another game he won once more. The last time was when I had imposed a self-fulfilling prophecy had a negative affect. I had let a friend live with me. I had told her that she needed to find a job. I had told her over and over again that she wouldn't get a job with the way she acted. I believed that because of the way she portrayed herself, the way she dressed and came across as that she would never get a job unless she changed. Because I kept believing that, my emotions and feelings projected onto her, making her believe that she would never get a job or keep a job and thus she was never able to get a job while she had lived with me.
