Reflection of Sociology 235
Sociology is the study of society. Sociologist focus around three main questions; what are we, what holds society together and why there is differences in society and what are its consequences. This course is mostly regarding inequality in society and its consequences in terms of Race and Ethnicity. Race and Ethnicity have been intertwined throughout sociology 235 in a way that has helped me to become a better-rounded human, and has additionally widened my views on people. This course has touched on several theories about race and ethnicity. It shows the importance of color in our society and how people are different in terms of race and ethnicity in a society. I found it interesting to learn about society in a different view. Sociology 235, which is about race and ethnicity in society is something that I find very easy to relate to. In our society people are being discriminated every day for their skin color, religion, background, and their culture. We have discussed many articles, watched documentaries, shared each other’s experiences in class for a better understanding of this course. Through reading articles, watching documentaries, and listening to personal experiences, we were able to understand a lot more about different races across the nation. We learned about societies behavior towards minorities such as black people and Muslims. Black people are discriminated every day. They are being discriminated at work, school, and many other places. History has proven the discrimination of blacks from years. Not only blacks, but other races are also being …show more content…
I know that we were watching many documents towards the end of the semester, but I wish we watched them throughout the course. Watching a documentary after each topic would have helped me understand the material more easily. I loved watching documentaries as they visually give us a sense of what was or is happening around us. I believe, seeing something has more impact than just reading. I personally learn more when I watch something, but nonetheless, I still learned a lot through what we have watched.
Overall, there were many concepts that was covered in this class that has benefited me and will benefit me in the future. This class is one of the most interesting course I have taken. Through learning about all the concepts, it helped me to look at things with a different perspective and look into things with more detail. This has been a great course and I learned a lot from it. I hope I get to take a few more classes related to this course in the
