Essay On The Townshend Act
The American Revolution changed the US forever. It lasted from 1775-1783. Many meetings and battles happened. But The Acts, protests against the acts and the Declaration of Independence were most important. All of those events had led to the American Revolution.
To begin with, Great Britain made tax laws for the Colonies, the Stamp Act, Sugar Act and the Townshend Acts.The first tax act was the Sugar Act. This was a tax on molasses, sugar and wine. This tax was made because Britain was losing money. The next act was the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was a tax on paper and documents. Britain made the stamp Act because they needed to fund their armies in America.
The final tax act was the Townshend Acts. The Townshend Acts had three main acts. The first act was the Revenue Act, which taxed led, glass, paint and tea. The second act was a

The Declaration of Independence was a paper written by five men; Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin, Roger Sherman and Robert Livingston. It was made because the colonist were done with laws, taxes and acts from the king. The Declaration of Independence symbolized that the colonies were no longer part the the British Crown and Freedom for most people. That was the the end with the battles and arguments with the British. Given these points, the American Revolution changed life forever. Many meetings and battles happened. Great Britain made tax laws for the Colonies, Stamp Act, Sugar Act and the Townshend Acts. As a result to the colonists protesting, it lead to some big events, being the Boston Massacre, Burning of the British ship and the Boston Tea Party. And also the colonist being done with the king and British Parliament, they wrote the Declaration of Independence. In 1764, Grenville’s government passed the Sugar Act, which placed a new tax on the sugar that was imported from the Indies.     In 1767 Charles Townshend who was the chancellor of the exchequer, created the Townshend Acts . The Townshend Acts were approved by British Parliament on June 26-June 2, 1767 and were repealed April 12, 1770. Charles Townshend proposed the program in order to raise 40,000 pounds a year so that the English parliament could cut the british land tax and this would also raise money to pay for the salaries of governors and judges. Some of the things that the Act taxed were paper, oil, lead, glass, and tea that went into American ports. Townshend knew that his program would be controversial in the colonies, but he argued that, "The superiority of the mother country can at no time be better exerted than now." The Townshend Acts were created right after the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was the English parliament taxing stamps on the colonies and it ended by the colonies wanting to have the same rights as the english. Unlike the stamp acts, it took quite some time before the colonists were concerned about it. Soon the colonies started to boycott, this resulted in a decrease in british trade for three years which eventually lead to the Townshend Acts being repealed by the prime minister. The Townshend Acts led to the Boston Massacre which was The Boston Massacre happened on March 5, 1770 when the british army killed five civilians when taxes where being collected. Another result of the Townshend Acts was the reorganization of the Sons of Liberty. Merchants and smugglers in the colonies organized boycotts to put pressure Brittan to repeal the Townshend Acts.The townshend acts were finally repealed on the 5 of March 1770, the same day as the Boston Massacre. The Prime Minister presented a motion in the House of Commons that called for partial repeal of the Townshend Revenue Act.
