Essay on What's Makes You Unique ?
I like options, I like security, and I like power. With these wants, I knew at a very early age that I would enter business and thus I attended a college that specializes in the subject. In my first position out of school, I was hired by Dunhill Equities as a cold-caller. After several weeks of being hung up on by angry prospects, I decided that this career path would not lead me to success. I then moved within the firm to a position as sales assistant. While this was by no means my dream job, I learned a tremendous amount about business, and I gained useful exposure to the world of finance. Unfortunately, the company hit a period of instability, and after ten months I transferred with my boss to Coleman & Company. Thirteen months later, that company also began to fail, and I began to search for another path to advancement. With two strikes against me, I hit a home run and was hired by Sanford Bernstein into a challenging job with limitless opportunity for growth.

After almost three years at Bernstein, I am once again seeking career advancement. My education and work experience have provided me with an excellent introduction to business, and they have sparked my interest in finance. Taking into consideration my foundation and my interests, graduate business school is the next logical step. At this point in my life, I consider a Stern MBA to be necessary since I need to gain a broader understanding of finance and to sharpen my analytical skills in order to be successful in corporate finance. Stern’s MBA program will allow me to concentrate in finance, strengthen my global business perspective, and provide me with the opportunity to study with and learn from people with varied backgrounds. The school’s location in the financial capital of the world and in one of the most diverse cities in the world also suits me perfectly.

Aside from advancing my career, I would also like to develop personally. In college I did not join many clubs or organizations, and I did

The Open Boat by Stephen Crane is a story describing four men that are trapped together in a small boat or dingy. The men aboard the boat are a captain, a correspondent, an oiler, and a cook. The men were aboard a larger boat that crashed off the coast of Florida and are now searching for the safety of a light house they remember. After making a homemade sail and some brisk paddling they finally get near the coast. They spot some people and begin to signal for help but the people only respond with friendly waves. The tide is much too strong to swim to shore so they paddle back out to sea a ways and wait for it to calm. While waiting they get approached by a shark. The large fish circles in such a way that death searches for the next victim it will claim. The men keep rowing and head toward shore. Upon arriving a reasonable distance from the shore, the captain announces that when the boat is about to sink that they will all jump and swim for shore. The oiler, cook, and correspondent evacuate the boat and swim for the sandy beach. The captain stays close to the boat because his injury inhibits his swimming ability. They are having trouble completely the journey to safety when a naked man comes and helps the correspondent and cook on shore. These two men alongside the captain are warmly welcomed by many. The oiler, however, is only welcomed by a sandy grave. The four men each represent four different members of society. The captain represents the leaders; the cook the followers; the oiler the workers; and the correspondent the observers and thinkers. These men must learn to work together and thrive off of one another’s strengths and make up for the other’s weaknesses. Each of these men are very different but the fury of nature does not discriminate against any man.…

One of my greatest accomplishments was graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance. While working a full-time job consecutively juggling school activities I completed my degree in three and a half years. I was encouraged by my grandfather who was once a Dean of Educational Services at Miami University and consequently had a long legacy of being a superior educator. Completing my degree and starting a career in Banking at Wells Fargo brought an abundance of pride to me and my family. Starting as a Teller I worked my way to becoming a Branch Manager in four years. After devoting ten years in Retail Banking I transitioned to Business Banking. Within six months I became a Business Banking Administration Manager, managing Business Banking Associates and operations among 5 different locations. Three years later I learned that a Business Banking reorganization was going to happen furthermore, I amongst numerous others…

When joining a club you become involved with the school and your surroundings, For example, I knew a lot of people at school, but after joining the club I joined other things that got me a connection with the people who worked in the community, other schools, and also the people who worked in offices. It showed me ways on how to communicate with different people and people who have the same goals, so I could get a better understanding of what’s going on around me and be a team. This benefited me for the better because I learned how to become better-rounded and learn other great key concepts to life. For example, I learned how to manage my time efficiently because of the fact that I was trying to fit time in for homework, practice, club duties, and me time in my life. I've only done one exceptional thing in my entire life. It was two months ago but I feel like an eternity passed since that day. I always thought about myself as a person who's impossible to get provoked. I based that opinion on my attitude towards Beca Baker, a girl who was trying to get on my nerves since the first day of high school. She was talking shit about me, pranking me - or at least trying to, she was way too stupid to pull of a successful prank - and making sure other people hated me as much as she did. Of course I could fight her - tell her to fuck off or spread some gross gossip about her but I felt like it would be too much effort. She wasn't as influential as she thought she was so I still had a few friends and was liked at school. I didn't care about Beca.…

Identity is something human beings hold dear. Humans are very complex beings and it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what makes up who a person is or can be. Now, the most common generalizations as to what makes up an identity are: personality, likes, dislikes, experience(s), religion, soul, memories and beliefs. A physical form isn’t mentioned; because the body is a temporary thing. A body doesn’t necessarily mean that it is part of the identity since; what will last forever in not the body but the impact left by personality or ideas, for they are everlasting.…

Afterward, I was recruited to help build out a distribution platform for a boutique investment bank in the Chicago market. In this role, I have expanded my knowledge in private equity, venture capital and alternative investments. Private investments have inherently more risk/reward associated with them and I take that into account in order to make appropriate recommendations for our investors. I set clear expectations when communicating with our client base and can articulate in a way that allows individuals to understand even when something may be new or unfamiliar to them.…

A personal accomplishment that I believe sets me apart is that I graduated high school in three years instead of four. I had to complete courses in Summer School and take extra subjects instead of fun electives , but in the end it was all worth it because I was able to start learning more about subjects that pertain to my career in college classes a year early. When my peers were taking it easy I decided to push myself and take all AP or Pre-AP courses so that I could better prepare myself for the change in difficulty in coursework that I would encounter in college. I believe this also sets me apart because I was born in El Salvador and had to learn English as a second language in school. After finally mastering the language , I proceeded to…

A little over twenty years ago, my grandparents decided to move out to a little town called Huntsburg. They bought twenty-eight acres of field that had a farm house on the far end off of a dirt street called Stillwell Road and thus the “Martin Complex” was born. They have four boys, my dad and his three brothers, who all currently have houses on the property. My house consists of my parents, Bill and Lisa, my sisters, Katie and Allie, my brother, Billy, and my dog, Kilo. I am the oldest sibling, as well as the oldest grandchild, so my parents and family expect me to set a good example for the other nine grandchildren to follow. All my life the only neighbors I have had are my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. We are all very family oriented people and I love the fact my family so close to me, especially in times of need, because we are all there for each other. Every Sunday we go to morning mass at St. Helen Church and then later everyone heads to my grandparents’ house for family dinner. We also celebrate birthdays and all the big holidays together.…
