1. Islam forces women to conform to “sex-based roles” (Todd, 2016). Muslim men force their wives and sisters to cover themselves to prevent them from participating as equals in society. This is the reason why Ishaq wears the niqab. (Feminist)
2. Government should serve the needs and interests in society while protecting the most vulnerable. In this scenario women are vulnerable to exploitation and government should work to protect their rights. The Harper government fought for this by banning the niqab at citizenship ceremonies which protects citizens while underscoring the basic Canadian value of inclusion and freedom. The justification given for this by Ishaq is so that the women who do not disturb the men by allowing them to be seen which would inevitably lead to sexual thoughts. Wearing the niqab is “rooted in a cultural that is anti-women” (Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper). Ideals such as acceptance should be taught, if a woman feels that she is being forced into sacrificing her freedoms because of an archaic idea of honour she should immediately oppose it. (Behaviourism)
Submissive behaviour should be condemned and should not be taught to women at young ages. Teaching that indicate that cultural and religious practices such as the niqab are not welcome in Canadian society, especially among newcomers will be extremely beneficial. (Learning
