Ethical Actions Worksheet

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

Was there anything in either the University of Phoenix Student Code of Conduct or the Student Code of Academic Integrity that surprised you? If so, what was it? Why were you surprised? If not, why not?

After reading the University of Phoenix Student Code of Conduct, I was not really surprised by what misconduct will not be tolerated; and what conduct will be punishable. Many, if not all, learning facilities, universities, and schools have similar codes of conduct that all students have to follow. I believe, it is necessary as a student to be aware of the code of conduct; and follow the code of conduct to be successful in school. Once I read the Student Code of Academic Integrity, I was surprised to learn about self-plagiarism. Self-plagiarism was a phrase I was not familiar with, and certainly not aware that it is wrong. Perhaps, I was unaware of self-plagiarism because I have been out of a classroom setting for quite some time. In conclusion, I feel that after reading both codes I am more informed about what is expected of me when it comes to how a student is supposed to act; and what is acceptable and not acceptable.

What did you learn about the behaviors considered important for an ethical learner or student in the University of Phoenix learning community?

Taking an ethical learning path, and the behaviors that support ethical learning, are important in the University of Phoenix learning community. I learned that being honest and making good choices will help you succeed in your learning community, as well as, knowing that by putting forth your best effort; and doing your own work will give you a sense of accomplishment. Your habits and the choices you make also should reflect the ethical learning path because you (the student) are the one that is here for the best education you are willing to get; and you

The University of Western Sydney (UWS) has a set academic standard of work that is expected for all current and future students to meet. In order to do so, the ‘Academic Misconduct Policy’ is enforced to incorporate ethical conduct with a students learning experience. The policy defines and categorizes any form of misconduct in to two, which depends on the threat that it may or may not have towards the university’s education system to delegate appropriate penalties of alleged student(s). ‘Minor misconduct’ produces a minimal threat, which is generally the result of a…

With the rise of the digital age cheating and plagiarism are becoming easier for students to get away with, with more access to information and higher stakes some would argue it had become a ‘necessary evil’. In turn it has also become easier to find and punish cheaters, but disputes on how to regulate these students and hopefully prevent cheating and ever waging. Honor codes have been implemented at schools and universities across the nation, that are a written agreement that require students to be honest in their work and conduct, especially promising not to cheat; however, many people (both students and administrators) are questioning if they actually provide positive results. My school Foothills Academy does not have an honor code implemented,…
