Ethical Decision Making Wal-Mart is known for its ethical standard as far as their customer service, employees and management expectations are concerned. Wal-Mart’s values and integrity are an intricate part of what is conveyed in their "Statement of Ethics. It has been determined according to Understanding Business that "ethics is more than legality," (Nickels, McHugh, & McHugh, 2010). All of this is based on Wal-Mart’s values and integrity. Their Statement of Ethics also clearly states that consuming alcohol on company premises is prohibited. Although alcohol is allowed within reason at an occasional company function and even then the individuals must be age appropriate to engage in consumption. These ethical decisions are being made with the employees and customers well being in mind (www.ethics.walmartstores.com). This is the high level of integrity that Wal-Mart would like to be identified with. Having a mindset of helping those with problems as a result of any illegal substance abuse or alcohol use, Wal-Mart has made counseling available to them. This is another good faith gesture that shows Wal-Mart’s character is strong and reliable. When evaluating Wal-Mart’s character traits, all four CORE categories tend to fit them. The CORE spelled out identifies with Wal-Mart directly: Character - based on person virtue; Obligation - based on a sense of duty to what is right; Results - based on consequences of actions taken; and Equity - based on practical analysis rather than absolute standards of right and wrong.
