These are issues I faced as a Resident Assistant on a regular basis, and the student often feels their trust has been violated when there is even a suggestion to include an additional party. However, it is important for their overall development to have their situation handled by the proper channels.
Due to the nature of student affairs careers, it is important to find a positive outlet for the emotions and stress gathered throughout the work week. This is why it is common for student affairs professionals to practice what they preach, and find their outlet. This way, they can go into work feeling cool, calm, and collected, as well as better focus on a student/individual and their needs.
