Ethical Issues Of Multicultural And Diversity In Counseling
First, ethical issue that involves multicultural and diversity is that the counselor needs to be precautious when providing a psychological assessment and test to the client. The counselor needs to make sure it is appropriate and it will not affect the client in any way. According to American Counseling Associated Code of Ethics states E.8, “Multicultural Issues/ Diversity in Assessment Counselors select and use with caution assessment techniques normed on populations other than that of the client. Counselors recognize the effects of age, color, culture, disability, ethnic group, gender, race, language preference, religion, spirituality, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status on test administration and interpretation, and they place test results in proper perspective with other relevant factors”. Therefore, before conducting a psychological assessment or test the counselor should make sure the test and assessment will do no harm to the client due to their own beliefs.
