aware of and make sure it takes in consideration the clients ethical factors. Second, ethical issue is cultural sensitivity.
The counselor should understand the cultural sensitivity of the client. It is important for the counselor to haven an understanding of the client cultural background in order to provide the proper psychological assessment and test. According to America Counseling Associated Code of Ethics E.5.b, “Cultural Sensitivity Counselors recognize that culture affects the manner in which clients’ problems are defined and experienced. Clients’ socioeconomic and cultural experiences are considered when diagnosing mental disorders”. So, the counselor should be aware of the clients cultural so it will not affect as they will be assessing and test. If the counselor finds something that is not correct before assessing it is important not to conduct the assessment or test. The counselor needs to be aware of the client’s personal assumptions, values and biases before conducting an assessment or
test.
Lastly, an ethical issue is not having the proper assessment or test for the client. Before conducting a test the counselor should check the client’s ethical beliefs, so the wrong assessment or test is not being used. According to America Counseling Associated Code of Ethics E.2.b, “Appropriate Use Counselors are responsible for the appropriate application, scoring, interpretation, and use of assessment instruments relevant to the needs of the client, whether they score and interpret such assessments themselves or use technology or other services”. For that reason, the counselor needs to use appropriate use of assessment and test information to the client. The counselor needs to communicate with the client before conducting an assessment or test because if the client needs interpretation there needs to be some to assist the client.
Implication of ethical issues Some of the implication that can be an ethical issue when conducting an assessment or test the counselor should normalized the culture background of the client. Having an understanding of culture background the counselor can have material that are appropriate to their ethical beliefs and not have any issues. The counselor needs to communicate appropriately with the client. Based on Multicultural Issues/ Diversity the counselor should attend a cultural diversity training to be aware of the differences. The counselor should be open to learn about accepting different cultural groups. According to Balkin, Schiosserand and Levitt (2009) “Counselors should have an awareness of how their religious beliefs may influence their delivery of counseling services. Counselors may be more facilitative when they have an awareness of their own beliefs and biases.” Therefore, the counselor needs to be aware of the beliefs and biases of the client so there will be no problems conducting an assessment or test. The Counselor being aware of the client beliefs will provide the counselor a better understanding of where the client comes from and there will be fewer implications. Cultural Sensitivity it is important for the counselor to be aware because not everyone will understand the same language. When providing an assessment or test the counselor needs to make sure the client is able to understand and there is not a language barrier.
