Evaluating Borton's Model In Nursing
Borton’s model is the recommended way to approach a situation whether dangerous or not. This breakdown of the module into a framework then structure –due to all hospital environments having a different structure and setting to how the hospital runs best for the doctors and nurses, but for the patients most importantly (Smith, 2016).

Borton invented the Discroll cycle, which had three key questions what?, so what? and now what? for paramedic reflection after an incident and a nurse’s reflection after receiving a letter from a family. A key case study was done by a qualified nurse. The what? looks at the description of the event, so what role did the nurse manage or did the nurse notice crucial piece evidence that could be the obstacle. The so what? looks at the analysis of the event, so focuses on the emotions that surrounded the incident. Finally, now what? looks at the actions after the event, so did the nurse accommodate the time to complete relevant paper work to explain in detail what happened during the incident and learnt through reflection how to modify their steps of action to change the outcome (Rolfe, 2014).

The NMC provide sufficient training to provide the greatest standard of care and treatment to patient –but also their families, protect patient’s safety –so confidentially of personal detail that they personal want to not tell family members –but also not to spread anything on social media or talk about patients out of hospital environment, as breaks NMC codes promote professionalism by sharing personal details. The correct showing of promote professionalism is for a nurse to be organised by having appropriate appearance which is expected of a nurse, so a clean smart uniform but also to abide the laws of the health care

    Professionalism is a crucial part of success in any work field and profession, however, within nursing, professionalism can be difficult to understand and maintain. Professionalism means suitably conducting one’s self in an appropriate way, in any working environment and respecting one’s surroundings and colleagues. Punctuality, professional mannerisms, confidentiality and a positive approach to work situations are all factors which create ‘professionalism’. Within nursing and many other areas of care work, this can be somewhat confusing. A nurse must treat everyone with dignity and humanity, be compassionate, caring, empathetic and warm, but in some cases, showing these emotions may be considered as unprofessional or inappropriate. In nursing, it is important to review one’s own actions to ensure the Code of Conduct is always kept as highly as possible. In such a profession it is easy to get emotionally attached to a patient or patient’s family, however the ‘role’ must be kept as a carer, to explain health conditions, advice on treatment and to guide. A nurse’s role is not one of a friend, but is one to offer subtle comfort as appropriately as possible. Hands on contact can be frowned upon. Guidelines and Code of Conduct is set by the NMC to help both nurses and midwives maintain the highest levels of professionalism.     It is mentioned throughout the code of conduct document that they need to always practice in a safe and competent manner, practice in relation to the set standards, always respect the dignity, culture, ethnicity, values and beliefs of a patient and colleague and to constantly protect the trust within your relationship between patients and colleagues. If these standards were not created, there may be cases of not working in a safe and competent manner, which worst case scenario may lead to the harm of a patient. Most importantly, could potentially offend patients due to their particular culture and certain values or beliefs, also known as cultural diversity. (Cultural diversity, which was first recognised in the 1950’s by ‘Madeleine Leininger’ who created the Cultural Care Theory (WhyIWantToBeANurse, 201, “Nursing Theory”, para.6). It has been defined as the difference between people of different cultures, beliefs, values and customs). This could result in insulting or offending the patients’ feelings and resulting in them feeling as if they will require a replacement Nurse to attend to them. Another statement that is mentioned is to constantly handle personal and confidential information that is acquired in a professional manner, is to be private. In the case that this document was never created, a nurse may release confidential information or paperwork without patients approval, or even treat this information in an unprofessional manner leading to that nurse and hospital or company to be sued. Linking to this, the last is maintain and build on the trust between yourself and your patients cause the last thing youy want when your trying to do your job is to betray the trust of a patient in even the simplest way possible.
