I am supervisor within a patient financial service (PFS) department at Everest memorial hospital (www.everestmemorialhospital.com). Everest memorial hospital is located at Somerville, Massachusetts. I am in charge to look over the financial accounts of the patients in the hospital. There are many ways patients’ visits in the hospital. There are different ways to charge the patients visits on the hospital. Some patients this hospital in ambulance in emergency department if they required immediate medical attention. Some patients visit as outpatients if they make an appointment with their doctor. Or some may stay as inpatients if they are required to stay in hospital after surgery. It is my team job to records all the transaction
related to the patients services and record it on the patients account so that it can be file claim for the reimbursement form the associated party. This hospital needs revenue to continue its operation. The revenue of this hospital depends mostly on reimbursement mainly from insurance company. Revenue cycle and reimbursement are the blood supply of the hospital. Reimbursement is the backbone of the hospital, without it hospital cannot survive.
Analyze the collection of data by patient access personnel and its importance to the billing and collection process. Be sure to address the importance of exceptional customer service.
Data are very important factors for the HIM professional for various aspects of the healthcare organization. Data are used by HIM professional in the healthcare for everything. It is used to forecast the budget for fiscal, it is used for forecasting the number of expected patients in each departments. Data are also used for research purpose. Data are used for determining the race, sex and other factors that are most affected by the certain diseases. Data are more important for the reimbursement process for the healthcare.
