Case Analysis: Evergreen Enhancement
Richard Alpert - senior partner at Evergreen investments overheard Charlie Pace, who is under debate of getting promoted to the position of managing VP talking to a colleague about taking Adderall – a drug originally intended for people suffering from attention deficit/hyperactivity (ADHD). However he is not afflicted with ADHD, but rather takes it to increase his work performance. Except for this incident nothing would get in the way of his promotion. He is extremely valuable for the firm due to being capable of reading the market and landing the biggest deals.
The other person considered to be the next managing VP is Daniel Faraday, who is a remarkable hard worker especially when it is needed the most. His connections to the financial world are not as good as Pace’s but he is still of great value to the firm in every aspect concerning his work. He is married and expecting a baby. In today’s world it is pretty common to take performance-enhancing substances. But Adderall is only prescribed to people with ADHD. The reported side effects include urinary tract infections, high blood pressure, paranoia, liver damage and heart attacks.
Alpert now has to decide who he should promote and how Pace’s consumption of Adderall affects his decision-making. What significance does Pace’s ability to perform slightly better at his job under the influence of Adderall have compared to supporting a caring head of a family who is willing to go the extra mile to get the job
