Sometime in our future, when people from this generation are at their 60s', people will wonder if they had made a change in the world to be better. Some will ask what could've they done to make a mark in history. While others could only wish to be someone they are not. And only a few will not have that question of emptiness. People make their own contributions in their own ways. Two characters that demonstrate these are Jason M. Clark of Illinois and Amy G. Santiago of California. Both have different professions but share the same purpose. Jason M. Clark is a history teacher in a small high school in Lombard, Illinois. He has been a teacher for five years and has gained respect among staff and faculty members and trust from his students. He had earned great reputation through his love and devotion to his work and to his students. On the weekends, Jason is not just an ordinary English teacher; his love and devotion extends to his country. Jason M. Clark is a sergeant and a squad leader in the United States Marine Corps Reserve Force. He trains in the field one weekend a month and one full month of the year. anything. Above all, Sgt. Clark has the duty to defend and protect our great country in time of war or crisis anywhere around the globe. Amy G. Santiago was born and raised in southern California. She is a single parent with two kids and is an eight-year veteran sergeant in the Los Angeles Police Department. Raising the kids on her own, Amy takes care of her two teenage girls during the day; she puts food on the table, takes her kids to the soccer game, and does all the other things a typical American Mom would do for her children. When night comes, she prepares her blue uniform making sure she has all the gear to catch the bad guys for the night. Sgt. Santiago patrols the street of south-side L.A. every night on her shift. It is the place where violence are definite. Gang violence dominates the street; drugs are introduced to kids at young age. Sgt. Santiago has been into numerous raids against drug dealers, car-theft factories, cocaine smuggling, and prostitution. Although is the only female in her department, Santiago does not hesitate to be in the front line along with the other male police officers. Despite discrimination to female officers, Santiago is well recognized for her courage and gallantry throughout the department. She has proven herself worthy of the uniform to serve her community against the hoodlums of society. Jason and Amy are two different people.
Jason is a teacher and a weekend warrior in the United States Marine Corps. He teaches the students to be academically aware of the great American History. With love for and pride in his country, he has committed himself to defend the freedom that has been long fought for by his countrymen. Amy, a single mother with two children, has devoted herself to serve and protect her community against domestic violence that has stained the once peaceful neighborhood. Jason and Amy's uncommon characteristics are reflected by their resourcefulness to helping other people. Each faces a different enemy. One is the enemy outside and the other is the enemy
within.
Beyond the differences, there is a common virtue Jason and Amy share: They want to make a difference in their own little world. They are both passion at protecting peoples lives. Although pack with training and action in their profession, they never underestimate their enemies. With a weapon as a last resort; both takes extra measure of precautions upon proceeding through the midst of danger. It is not a walk in the park; they are always shadowed by death. Their willingness to take a bullet for their cause is extraordinary. Jason and Amy are two extraordinary citizens of our great country. They are gifted with courage to stand up and fight for a total stranger. Although they wear different uniforms, together they serve the people. Though sometimes misjudged by the people they are sworn to protect, their determination abandons the selfish side hidden within them. That is the character they share together that separates them from the rest. Sgt. Clark of the United States Marine Corps, defends our freedom, and Sgt. Santiago of the Los Angeles Police Department, serves and protects. Two distinguished heroes, serving one purpose and making their mark on our daily lives.
