Abstract
Evidence based practice is a combination of the best practice obtained from research study, patient care data, and expert opinion in order to identify different methods of improvement in providing high quality care reflecting values, needs, interest and choices of the patient. Knowledge and skills gained in the process of evidence based practice helps health care workers to bring about reforms in healthcare and increases individual accountability of practice. Comparing evidence based practice, gaining understanding of why things are done the way they are done and demonstrating activities that promote evidence based practice in order to provide better care. Healthcare providers investigate and identify barriers to best practice and implement guidelines accordingly. The foundations to a strong practice culture are strong leadership, mentoring, time, resources, clinical settings partnered with academics and strong administrative support.

Evidenced-Based Practice
The interventions and practice considered as a result of evidence- based practice, by the National Guideline Clearinghouses for hand hygiene recommendation in prevention and control of healthcare associated infections in Massachusetts are: Hand washing and hand antisepsis using a non-antimicrobial and water, antimicrobial soap and water, and alcohol based-hand rub, receiving input from heath care workers regarding the products that are being used, providing healthcare workers with skin care products, educating the healthcare workers and observing their practices, and having administrative support. These are similar to my facility’s policies, except that they do not recommend the use of non-antimicrobial soap.
