Ex Machina which is a movie about artificial intelligence opened the idea to human vs. non-human. Watching the film and having discussions gave me a better understanding on the topic of human vs. non-human. The movie portrayed a detailed example of human vs. non-human. Nathan the scientist had used Caleb to test Ava if she was like a true human being. Ava is a computerized robot who could show feelings but didn’t really have them.
Meanwhile us humans have all different kind of feelings. We react differently in different situations. Ava being a non-human
Ava being an AI and Caleb being human is a prime example of human vs. non-human. The interactions between the two had shown true human feelings vs. programmed feelings. During the Turing test, Caleb had acquired true feelings for Ava. He was doing everything in his will power to help her escape from Nathan. Unlike Caleb, Ava is programmed to show emotion but not actually feel it. In Ex Machina she had used Caleb to escape Nathan and experience for life for herself. She had not shown any emotions after trapping Caleb. Artificial intelligence do not have real feelings just programmed to show them.
Trying to distinguish between what is real vs what isn’t real. In the “Life Cycle” this was shown with the digients, which are a software given human traits. Jax who is a digient would get jealous when the other digients were praised Ana their creator. Even though Jax was jealous he was programmed to feel that way in certain situations. He would never have real jealously as a human would. Jax can only show it because Ana programmed him to. From the reading and movies that I had viewed, which were “Ex Machina” and “Life Cycle.” Ava and digients never had or showed true empathy or feelings as humans do. The creators Nathan and Ana shown us and brought to my attention how life would be like with artificial intelligence. They would be able to interact with humans, but the mutual feelings would not be there.
