Honestly, it is a truly scary topic. Children being abused and neglected was not fun to learn about, but is a topic I care a lot about which is why I chose it for my Expository/ Persuasive Research Essay. Writing this paper made me want to take an active role in changing things for foster children. I felt pretty overwhelmed with this paper just because so many emotions were going through my head, between success stories and failures and families trying to adopt when they could not and children literally being pulled out of their homes for no reason, but I think these emotions helped me so much. Writing about something you truly care about can change your view of writing forever. Looking back to the beginning of the year I really see improvements in my creativity as a writer, I see papers in a different light. I used to look at them as a project I just could not wait to have done. Today, if a professor were to assign an essay I would actually enjoy the process of organizing my idea and using resources that I have learned about in this class. I can see myself using the method of top ten lists to start with and then moving forward paragraph by paragraph making sure each one is nice before moving on, but later making revisions to make sure the flow of the paper is nice. Making this portfolio has tested my ability to be creative with pieces of work I have already done and I really enjoyed it. Having a vague direction wit how to design my portfolio really allowed me to try things on my own and I think it was a good learning experience for having a project that I needed to manage my time with. Anyone can say that they learned a lot from a class, but when someone is tested on it can show the truth and a different answer may come to the surface, but with this class I actually do think that I have learned how to manage my time and spread out a project instead of cramming it in on the night before it is due. As a writer I do still make plenty of grammatical mistakes, but I do see myself catching them much more often. Little
