Stereotypes are specific characteristics assigned to particular groups based on their nationality, race, gender, belief, and even skin color. It is an oversimplified idea about groups of people without taking in consideration about their individual differences. One of the examples of stereotype is my judgement about people who drink and smoke. As a Christian, I was taught it is not right to drink alcohol. Not only because of religious influence, smoking and drink alcohols are not common things to do in my family since both my parents are not smokers and drinkers. Smoking and drinking are also not allowed in my school, and students who did that will have a bad image and might get expelled based on the school’s regulation.

People have their own reason to do that, for example, because it is part of their own culture. A saying that says never judge a book by its cover is a good phrase to describe the whole experience. People who smoking may have their own personal reason that makes them decided to blow the cigarette. I realized that it is not right to judge them about something without knowing their reasons and story. However, even though you heard their whole story, you might never be able to understand the reason of why they are doing the certain thing. In this case, I think it is appropriate to think that you may not be able to understand the whole thing because you have never been in that person’s shoes. In my opinion, to accept individual differences, respect each other, and a willingness to hear their story is a wise action to do to overcome false judgement or
