Some people could argue that Atticus is stern because he reprimands his kids too harshly. The opposition tries to prove this point by using this thought by Scout, “His curtness stung me… For no reason I felt myself beginning to cry, but I could not stop. This was not my father.”(Lee 178) However, Atticus is virtuous because without reprimanding his kids, they would not know what is right behavior and what is wrong behavior. In the days after Tom Robinson’s conviction, Atticus has a conversation with Jem. Jem doesn’t understand how even though Tom Robinson was innocent, he was still convicted. Jem says he wasn’t guilty and the decision of the jury wasn’t right. Atticus brings up when he was at the jail and the crew of men showed up to beat…

Being a parent involves lots of responsibility. Managing a job, a house, and two kids all without a mother seems quite a difficult job. Well, Atticus Finch, in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, sets an inordinate example of a wonderful father. Atticus went to law school to become a lawyer. He settled in Maycomb County with his two children, Jem and Scout. His wife had died previously, so the responsibility of total provision fell on his shoulders and their servant, Calpurnia. Atticus was a very patient, protective, and passionate father.…

In “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, Jem Finch discovers that it’s essential to do what’s right even if it’s not a favored decision. Examples of this are shown throughout the book as Jem becomes exposed to more knowledge, and Atticus, his father, is a prime example of what’s just. It’s important to learn the lesson of doing what’s right because without it, you’ll lose self-esteem and respect. Not doing what’s right can lead to severe punishments both physically and mentally. Doing something wrong, and even just doing nothing can eat away at you, and doing the right thing will never be worse than that.…

Another valuable lesson that he teaches his children is to respect their elders. This lesson was learned when Jem ripped the flowers from Mrs. DeBose’s garden; his consequence was that he needed to read to her. By being forced to spend time with her he learns to respect people that are much older than him and have much more life experience. Atticus also never lays a hand on his children. Atticus tries to show them the right from the wrong and he does all of this without hurting them: “Atticus, you've never laid a hand on her. I admit that. So far I've been able to get by with threats”(116). All this proves that Atticus is a positive parental figure. Like any parental figure, Atticus share valuable life lessons that will get his…

Atticus did many terrific things in this novel as a father other than slight mistakes he might have made. When Atticus said “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view — until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” --Atticus (pg. 30) that was really foreshadowing the story towards Tom Robinson and adds to teaching his kids equality. Also, the fact that he even stood up for Tom Robinson as a white man defending a black man is greatly teaching his kids to not care what anybody else thinks or says and just be your own person. That is a quality that many people and children are…

One allusion that atticus used effectively was"all men are created equal"Lee, Harper. To kill a mockingbird: Harper Lee. New York, Scribner Laidlaw, 1989. Atticus says this Allusion to show the hostile jury that all men should be treated equally. To discourage the juries racism or biasty around the case. "Our courts have their faults as does any human institution, but in this country, our courts are the great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal"Lee, Harper. To kill a mockingbird: Harper Lee. New York, Scribner Laidlaw, 1989 (Pg. 226-227). Atticus was definitely a major role model for both his children because he was a well-mannered father. From the beginning of the novel until the end, his kids were trying to make him proud of them. "I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand" (Pg. 116) is just one of the non-violent, influential lessons he told his children. One of the many ideas he tries to make clear to Scout throughout the novel is to not judge people, which is the primary conflict in the story. "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of…

Atticus' management shows that he wants the best for her, also that he always knows how to show her the positive side in everything and in addition that he is more concerned with Scout getting an education than feeling comfortable at school. This shows that he truly wants that she will have a good life and that she will be a well educated girl. An Example for that is when he teaches her how to read. I think this makes his parenting seem reasonably good and that he just wants the best for his children. In generally he teaches his children to respect people for who they are, not to be prejudice, and to consider things from other points of…

Atticus shows heroics because of his way of raising his children to be not so quick to judge therefore making him a leader of kind heart. A germane example of Atticus’s lesson to his children would be when he says, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view- Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (Lee 39). He explain to Scout that you should not judge someone until you know who they truly are. He also tells Scout “I do my best to love everybody...I’m hard put sometimes-baby, it’s never an insult to be called what someone thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is” (Lee 144 and 145). This shows that Atticus is warm-hearted as well as valorous because he is not afraid to be called a name. Atticus teaches his children respect as well as courage when he explains to Jem, “I wanted you to see what real courage is... It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway” (Lee 149). Atticus deserves to be honored as a hero because he raises his children with honesty and gentle…

Ignorance is the greatest challenge that man has yet to overcome; its ability to spread hatred makes it at fault for many of humanities problems. The only cure for such a wide-spread, and often deadly disease, is knowledge. Knowledge can be spread through many forms, but the most powerful way to spread it is through celebration.
