Have you ever made a decision that makes you question whether if it was right or not? In The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, the main character, Amir makes a decision that doesn't only impact him but also his half-brother Hassan. A major role is played by Amir when he ignores Hassan’s need for help, as he is raped by Assef, and tries to receive love and affection from his father, Baba. Through many trials, Amir has to get rid of the guilt from the past, and face the consequences of the present.

In this moment Amir freaked out, “How could you hide this from me? From him? I bellowed. Please think, Amir jan. It was a shameful situation. People would talk. All that a man had back then, all that he was, was his honor, his name, and if people talked...We couldn't tell anyone, surely you can see that. He reached for me, but I shed his hand. Headed for the door,”( Hosseini 223). When Rahim Khan told Amir that Hassan was his half-brother, he had a flood of emotions. Amir felt very betrayed because when his dad, or Baba was alive he never told him this, and this conversation was fifteen years after Baba died. He also felt like Baba betrayed Hassan his whole life, because Hassan could have lived a much better life if he was treated more like Baba's son, rather than his servant, which is now too late because Hassan was killed. The author put this twist to the story in the book to answer the questions of readers, both Baba and Amir had always wondered about Hassan, so was the missing puzzle piece from the big picture all
