Examples Of Courage By H. Henry Sinason

In today’s world, people throw the word “brave” around all the time. People say things like, “You were so brave killing that spider,” and, “How brave of you for going on that scary roller coaster.” However, we tend to forget about the true acts of courage that can lead to life or death in certain situations. The story of H. Henry Sinason is one of courage and bravery. Henry was born in Berlin, Germany, and he had a good life there until one day the National Socialist regime took over. When the Nazi’s took charge of Germany, Henry had to go to a new school just for Jews, and he also dealt with young German boys who would gang up on the Jews just because of their religion. After dealing with these changes, times became worse, and the Sinasons decided they had to escape Germany. Henry had to travel away from his family many times during the Holocaust, sometimes with his brother and other times by himself. His journey to survival required Henry to use every ounce of courage in his body.
For example, Henry had to travel to Paris by train all by himself. He had to convince the Gestapo that his reason of leaving Germany was valid, and after Henry told them he was going to live in Paris with his uncle, the response he got was that if he came back to Germany, they would have to shoot him. Henry wasn’t surprised by this because as he said, “By this time, you sort of get numb.” This was a clear example of the tough times that Jews were going through, as those like Henry were used to the constant threats and harm they received. Henry kept his cool and managed to sneak his way to Paris, something I highly admire because it takes an enormous amount of courage to not back down after receiving any kind of threat, let alone a death
