Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Life Of Mariam

This novel uses different elements to foreshadow future events in the story. The biggest and most important use of foreshadowing in the book is the life of Mariam. Right of the bat, her mother Nana calls her daughter a harami (bastard) and a disgrace. This foreshadows that Mariam's life throughout the novel will be terrible one and she may not get her happy ending. The use of suspension is to draw the audience in and to have the audience wonder in their mind what will happen next. Those uncomfortable feelings that happens while reading shows that this book may be a book of fiction but the reality and monstrosity of these events do occur in every day life. This story is told through the perspective of Mariam and Laila, two women who fight to
