The truth, one of Christopher McCandless´s values in life. The film Into the Wild is just one of many films and literature often address to the value “the truth”. Walden by Henry David Thoreau is also about finding the truth, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life.”, “Walden” (Thoreau, 1854).
Values are stable, long lasting beliefs about what is important for a person. Values are individual and very powerful, but very important for each and every human. All kinds of values have a little power on affecting humans, because values have an important influence at human´s behavior, attitudes and perceptions. Not only is the value exactly the same as Into the Wild, but both Walden and Into the Wild is a poem and a film about finding yourself and the truth about your life.
In “Walden” (Thoreau, 1854), it says “I wanted to live deep and stuck out all the marrow of life”. The poem express that finding the truth about life is an obvious value, because “in 1854 he, Henry David Thoreau, started a simple living project; he lived in a small cabin a thought about the meaning of life”, according to Areklett, Kristin Måge, Øystein Lenning Hals, Kristin Lindaas and Hilde Tørnby, Stunt, Samlaget, Oslo 2011. The result was, of doing the project, “Walden”, his most famous work. Perhaps this was the right way for finding the truth about life, just as Christopher in Into the Wild
