convicted of that crime, but because he was black, he was guilty. Another injustice in the book is that Miss Caroline told her that she was not ready to be taught how to read. Miss Caroline told her that she doesn't want Atticus to teach her how to read because she is too young.
Next, in To Kill a Mockingbird, hypocrisy is a big theme in the book. One example of this is how Tom Robinson was guilty of the crime, even though it was nearly impossible for him to do that. If he was white, he would have probably not have been convicted. Another example is how Mrs. Gates says that she does not like Hitler for his discrimination against the Jews. But, Scout realizes that Mrs. Gates treats the blacks horribly in the town like Hitler treated the Jews, which made her think why does Mrs. Gates hate Hitler if she hates the blacks like Hitler does the Jews. Just like in the book, many things in the world today are as bad or worse as they are in the book. An example of evil in the world today was a mother from Detroit was shot while trying to pick up her son from basketball practice. The mom was shot at a gym when a 17-year-old man, Ralph Marshall, attempted to take the car from the woman outside the gym. She tried to drive away from the armed man, but she was shot before she could get away. The man went about 2-3 blocks before the police were called. A fellow parent said to a CNN interviewer “She couldn't speak. Blood was coming out of her ears...she was spitting up blood.” She was rushed to the hospital and died from her wounds later. So in conclusion, in the world today and in To Kill a Mockingbird, many evils are the same in both the book and real life today.
