Examples Of Manipulation In Animal Farm By George Orwell

How many leaders do you know have become corrupt and performed manipulative behavior to the people of their country, today and historic times? Well, you can be aware of zero, one, or even one thousand;either way, light should be shown to this behavior because it not only affects yourself and myself, it affects everyone. In the story, Animal Farm, by George Orwell, there is a farm where animals are being mistreated by their owner, Mr. Jones. Soon after, the animals form a rebellion and take over the farm with the intention that humans are ignorant and manipulative. However, the power is seized by the pigs and the pigs begin to act the same way as Mr. Jones, making the farm stay the same or some can say worse. George Orwell is suggesting with this story that in society, politically, cunning and clever behavior will be used in a negative way;for example, the use of propaganda, manipulation, and oppression.
The first form of cunning behavior presented in the story is the use of Propaganda. Propaganda is information, ideas, or rumors, deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, etc;in Animal Farm’s case, harming a person who is named Snowball who represents Trotsky in the Russian Revolution. In
The animals are not very intellectual and tend to be taken advantage of by the pigs. The animals cannot read well or remember well. In Animal Farm, a set of seven commandments is written for all animals to follow. Although, soon the pigs begin to disobey the commandments. To Illustrate, “no animal shall sleep in a bed”(43). Nevertheless, that commandment is changed towards the end of the book. One specific animal, Clover, notices and checks the commandment again. It is no surprise to read “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets”(79). And, because the animals have no intellect whatsoever, this commandment was bypassed with a simple statement of “clover had not
