At the introduction of Joe Dagget in the story, Louisa’s little yellow canary suddenly begins flapping its wings violently against the wire cage. Does the canary have a feeling that Joe is capable of bringing a change to our feathered friend’s pleasant life? Is the canary a symbol of the feelings that Louisa herself is harboring within about Joe’s return (205, 7)? Freeman mentions that when Joe enters he seems to fill up the entire room. It seems to Louisa that she fears a disruption in her delicate lifestyle. In many ways Louisa seems like she herself is a canary locked in a cage, but she has locked herself in waiting for Joe’s return. While waiting for Joe, however, she has grown comfortable in her lonely life.…
Throughout the Revolutionary War many men fought for their country, but women could not. Many men were remembered for their bravery and courage but many women were not remembered at all. You might remember some women like Abigail Adams or Martha Washington but you don’t know all of them. There were many important women throughout the Revolutionary War who did many things like being the female counterpart of Paul Revere to making the first American flag.…
Sybil Ludington was born on April 5, 1761 and was the oldest of 12 children. Her father was a Cornel in the Revolutionary War and participated in the French and Indian War. On April 26, 1777 a messenger came asking for help because the British were attacking Danbury, Connecticut a nearby town. Sybil's father couldn't gather his men because he had to come up with a strategy on how to defeat the British in Danbury so Sybil volunteered to gather his troops for him.…
Sybil Ludington, the female Paul Revere, is accredited with fame for the brave journey she endured in order to warn militia that Danbury, a storage place for ammunition, was under attack from British forces. Ludington was born on April 5, 1761 to parents Abigail and Henry Ludington and died February 26, 1839. She was born and raised in an area now known as Dutchess County, New York and then known as Putnam County, New York. Though there is not much information about Sybil’s early or daily life, putting aside her famous journey, there is some about her relationships and post-journey life. After the end of the Revolutionary War, Sybil ended up marrying a lawyer, Edmond Ogden , in which they had one son named Henry. After the death of her husband, Ludington continued to run an inn, just as her husband had, until moving to Unadilla with her son and his family. Upon her own death in February of 1839, Sybil was buried at the Presbyterian Church in Putnam near her parents.…
One of my personal favorite historical figures would be Mae Carol Jemison. She overcame the normalcy of a white man in space by becoming the first African American woman to go into space. First, I would ask her “how did you do it?” I really would like to know how she overcame all the pressure and abuse of being different in her field of study. Not many women during that time tried to get into the study of science. I admire Jemison for pursuing what she loved to do and not quitting because it was harder on her than the rest. Secondly, I would ask “would you do it all over again?” I would love to knw if it’s worth it to go through so much to be where she is now. If she would go through all her struggles to become an astronaut once more if she…

Leila Hicks is a nineteen-year-old young adult that lives in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire; also known to be one of the wealthiest towns of the state. She attends Dartmouth College, which is about 90 miles apart and approximately 2 hours in length by car. When she was a freshman in college, she commuted her distance to and from her parent’s house in order to be closer to her beloved and ill Nana; also known to be her nanny since birth. After she completed her freshman year, her nanny encouraged her to move to a closer location from her college, and they could possibly see each other on the weekends. Once Leila decided that moving to a different location near her college was more beneficial for her studies, she accepts her offer and later on…
One such example is when the attorney general Henderson tells Mrs. Peters that because she is married to the sheriff, she is married to the law and therefore is a reliable follower of the law. Mrs. Peters' response "Not--just that way," is very interesting in that it suggests that over the course of the play, she has found a different aspect of her identity, perhaps and an empowered woman and not just a housewife. Another interesting quote from Glaspell’s play is when Mrs. Hale states that women "all go through the same things--it's all just a different kind of the same thing." While Minnie Wright’s dealt with her particular situation differently than either Mrs. Peters or Mrs. Hale, they all seem to reject male dominancy to some degree. This concept of female identity and solidarity has a huge impact on the outcome of the play, as Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters decide, despite breaking the law, to conceal the evidence they uncovered that could be used to convict Mrs. Wright for the murder of her…
Therapeutic hypothermia and risk for infection articles done by Geurts, Marjolein and his team in 2014. They did observational studies suggest that infections are more common complication of therapeutic hypothermia. They also did random study to examine the risk of infection in adult patient treated with hypothermia. They collect information from each study about patient base line, cooling strategy and infection. The study concludes if the patient treated with hypothermia the infection not increased obviously while there was an increased risk of pneumonia and sepsis. (Geurts, Marjolein MD1, etal, 2014).Perioperative hypothermia can lead to different complications, for example infection, patient discomfort, bleeding, and recovery time is longer…
Lila Mae Watson faces drastically different challenges of modernity than those James Axton recognizes. Where Axton is an upper middle class caucasian man with the means and ability to move about the globe and hold a somewhat prestigious job, Lila Mae is the most talented Elevator Inspector in the city and can glean little to no respect from her peers and society due to Whitehead’s pre-civil rights setting. Lila Mae’s central test stems from her gender and race. The other African American or mixed characters in the novel, Fulton and Pompey, are also inspectors but both of them are male and “pass” as white ensuring them a degree of respect not granted to Lila Mae. Watson, however does not hide her lineage or race but yields to societal rules…
There are some similarties between Mrs. Jones The main characters in the twon storys. Both characters are sympathetic towards others.
