Case Study Helen Thomas

Helen Thomas is a 90-year-old widow who is currently in a nursing home after suffering a stroke nine months ago and fell and broke her hip three months ago. Since, her health has been declining rapidly and she needs extensive care. Consequently, her 68-year-old daughter, Karen, feels obligated to be there for her mother every day to assist her. This has caused Karen’s already poor health to decline rapidly as well. Karen requested volunteer helpers to assist her mother and help relieve her, but she was told that there were not enough volunteers to do so. Jenny Smith, a social worker, began sitting with Mrs. Thomas twice a week on her lunch break, and this has shown benefits for Mrs. Thomas. Instead of taking time for herself during this break, Karen runs errands for her mother.

I revised my question and keyword search by adding the word “physical” health because it is more applicable to Karen’s case, however, this did not yield many other results for me. I did not specifically search by a date range for the studies as most of the studies I read were fairly recent, and I felt they were applicable and acceptable.
