General Process
Michigan Election Law provides that the county chair of a major political party (the Democratic Party or the Republican Party) can object to the appointment of an election inspector by the Board of Election Commissioners. Challenges can be made as to (1) the appointee’s qualifications, (2) the legitimacy of his/her political party affiliation, or (3) whether there is a completed declaration of political party affiliation in the application for that appointee on file in the clerk’s office.
Upon receipt, the Board of Election Commissioners will review the challenge. If the objection is about the appointee’s qualification, the Board will determine whether the appointee has the necessary qualifications
