Many movements have changed the way people view and think about certain topics or issues. To elaborate, political education meaning not only the rich are educated, homosexuality is not a sickness, and abuse is no longer labeled as an illness. Social movements often involve acts of protests which results in people being viewed as deviant for challenging social norms that are set in place. The moral boundary is not something that stays the same, it is influenced by historical perspective and is altered by moral entrepreneurs, social movements, organizations and the state. The moral boundary has a side that is normal and a side that is deviant. On the normal side, it is comprised of Aristotelian, Medieval Scholastic, Physiological, Biological, Economic, Psychological, and Sociological periods in time. Specific instances or circumstances cause and individual to shift from the normal to the deviant side. To elaborate, when it comes to Aristotelian, a person becomes deviant by being born and becoming deviant. For Medieval Scholastic, a person becomes deviant by the devil being what made the cross over, in other words, they committed a sin. For Physiological, a person becomes deviant by something that happened to the person and it is known by someone just looking at them. Many Americans engaged in a massive celebration of the greatest “protest” in the history of the century, the secession of the emerging “states” from the British Empire. This march was planned and executed by a group of people who called themselves the Duly Fourth Coalition such as groups called American Indian Movement, gay activists, and various women’s groups. The coalition agreed that the march would celebrate a Bicentennial without colonies, with employment, with democracy and equality for all. Sadly, the media covered only what they wanted to cover. This protest was measured by using articles that appeared in newspapers one week before and one week after the march. The result of the protest brought up the point that it was seen as a small gathering rather than a large protest and that it did not have media coverage.
