The man in this story is a psychopath with a guilty conscious who somehow maintains to be slightly sane. A example he is a psychopath is the quote “ the old man gave a loud cry of fear as i fell upon him and held the bedcovers tightly over his head”. Another example is “ yes. He was dead! Dead as a stone. His eye would trouble me no more”!.
This completely shows this man in this story is a psychopath.
The man has a guilty conscious an example why he has a guilty conscious is the quote
“I was suffering more than i could bear, from their smiles, and from that
sound”. Another example is “ i pulled up three of the boards that formed the floor, and put the pieces of the body there”. That is evidence the man has a guilty conscious.
The psychopath and guilty conscious man is also slightly sane. An example is when he said “ i do not hate the man”. Another example is “during all that week i was as friendly to the old man as i could be, and warm, and loving”. All in all he is slightly sane.
In conclusion, the character in The Tell-Tale Heart is a man who is psychopath, slightly sane, and with a guilty conscious. I liked the story but it has some disturbing parts. The traits that are stated are important because it describes the character and what the story is based on.
